“Ndati ndingasekwa”: Beitbridge Man Commits Suicide For Fear of Mockery Over Cheating Wife

In the quiet heat of Alpha Stands in Beitbridge, a chilling ‘suicide note’ from Marume Chinembiri (42) on a bedroom wall has shaken a whole community awake. Written in raw, uneven handwriting, the note read: “Ndabata message mufoni yemudzimai wangu nemunhu waanotorana naye saka ndatya kuti ndingasekwa nevanhu.” “I saw messages in my wife’s phone with the man she is cheating with, and I am afraid of being mocked.”

That message is now a haunting echo in this border town, a painful reminder of hidden wounds and dangerous silence among men. The room where it was written still carries the smell of dust and sweat, with a brown belt dangling from the roof trusses. It was on October 23, 2025 that Catherine Chinembiri (30) made the discovery around midday. She opened the door and froze. Family tragedy had arrived without warning, even though neighbors say the signs were there.

The scene has left locals shaken. A quiet home, a belt, a note and fear. Fear of shame. Fear of being laughed at. As one resident whispered later, “Vanhu vanotya kusekwa kupfuura rufu. ‘Ndati ndingasekwa’ is killing our men.”

Police confirmed the suicide case under RRB 6495961. Chief Superintendent Ncube stated that there were no other injuries and no foul play suspected. The body was taken to Beitbridge District Hospital Mortuary. Attempts to reach wife Magret Manyuchi were unsuccessful. Their daughter Belinda refused to comment. That silence speaks almost as loudly as the writing on the wall.

A neighbor, speaking anonymously, remembered him from the afternoon before the suicide. “He was muttering to himself, writing like a man preparing to leave. I thought maybe he was drunk again. I did not know it was goodbye.”

A Marriage Full of Storms

For 18 years, community people say Marume and Magret lived in a storm that often went quiet, then came back hard. Friends talk of separations, fights, accusations. Some point to musombodiya, the cheap homemade alcohol many men here drown themselves in. One resident called him “a drunken kick-boxer who could not control anger.” Another shook his head and said, “But pride can break any man. They lived like strangers under one roof. Like ghosts in their own love story.”

According to neighbors, the final trigger was EcoCash-confirmed messages between Magret and another man. The confrontation was loud. Magret reportedly fled to Mashavire Township with the children.

Then came the fear he wrote on the wall.
“Ndatya kuti ndingasekwa.” (I was afraid of being laughed at/mocked)

That fear swallowed him and led him to his drastic end by suicide!

Whispers in Beitbridge

Across Alpha Stands, heartbreak mixes with gossip, shock and uncomfortable reflection. Some say this was about betrayal. Others say it was poverty and booze. Many quietly admit it was pride. A woman nearby sighed, “Some of us survive abuse because we have nowhere to go.” A young man outside a bottle store added, “Men are dying in silence. They break inside. They cannot talk.”

On X and WhatsApp, the story spread after B-Metro amplified The Herald, gaining quick views and comments about shame, cheating and pressure. Beitbridge is a border town where many men chase trucks, hustle goods and drown stress in cheap liquor. This tragedy feels familiar.

A Bigger Conversation on Men and Mental Health

Zimbabwe has seen rising male suicide cases in recent years. Residents here link it to drugs, broken marriages, money stress and the heavy idea that men must never cry or ask for help. Chief Superintendent Ncube encouraged people to talk to pastors, elders or the police victim support unit. Mental health groups and Zimbabwe’s National Suicide Prevention support lines remain critical, though many men still fear reaching out.

Not Just Another Silent Ending

In the dusty streets of Alpha Stands, the death of Chinembiri by suicide is not just another moment. It is a mirror. A warning. A cry for better conversations about pride, marriage, alcohol and mental health. Let this not be the end of the story. Let it be the beginning of honest talk.

As people whisper, “Ndatya kuti ndingasekwa,” may we answer with space, not shame.
