SONA Today: President Mnangagwa FACES Nation Amid EXPLOSIVE Term Limit TENSION

Harare, October 28, 2025 – Zimbabwe is focused on the New Parliament building in Mount Hampden today as President Emmerson Mnangagwa is set to deliver his annual State of the Nation Address (SONA) at 12:00 PM.

This major event is when the President tells the country how things are going—economically, socially, and politically—and sets the most important laws that Parliament must pass in the coming year. It marks the official opening of the Third Session of the 10th Parliament.

The Main SONA Goal: Bigger, Better Zimbabwe (Vision 2030)

The President’s speech is expected to focus heavily on the final preparations for launching the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2). This plan is meant to take the country closer to its goal of becoming an upper-middle-income nation by 2030.

President Mnangagwa is expected to rally the nation around several critical sectors:

Cde Pupurai Togarepi, the Government Chief Whip, noted that while they were initially unhappy with the slow rate of new Bills coming from the Attorney General’s Office, the situation has improved: “Presently, 15 Bills are at various stages before Parliament.

The opposition also welcomes the focus on lawmaking. Mr. Charles Moyo, the CCC National Assembly Chief Whip, encouraged citizens to get involved: “I encourage our citizens to attend in numbers all the public hearings that we will conduct and say what they want.” He promises that citizens will “witness an upward trend in how we are going to legislate, represent them and do our oversight role.”
